1. Information we collect

We collect information to provide better services to our users and improve our business.

We collect information that can identify you such as your name and email address ("personal information") and other information that does not identify you in two ways:

  • Information you give us or information provided through Facebook or LinkedIn. The Room Ring is a roommate matching service that requires you to Facebook or LinkedIn authenticate when signing up. We have access to information you directly provide, such as your name, email addresses, contact information, and information about your residence, occupation, alma mater, interests, current city, photos, personal description, friend or connection list, and information about and photos of your Facebook friends who might be common Facebook friends with other Service users and other demographic information and preferences, and we also have access to information you have provided to Facebook or LinkedIn, including your Facebook or LinkedIn privacy settings.

  • Information we get from your use of our Service. We may collect information about the services that you use and how you use them, like when you visit different parts of our site and what selections you make about the type of residence you would like to live in, or the type of roommate you would like to live with. We use various technologies to collect information from your device and about your activities on our Service. We may also automatically collect certain technical information such as:

    • Device information-- We automatically collect information from your browser or device when you visit our Service. This information could include your IP address, device ID and type, your browser type and language, unique device identifiers, the operating system used by your device, access times, your mobile device’s geographic location while our application is actively running, the referring website address and mobile information if you use a mobile device to access the site.

    • Log information--When you use our Service or view content on the Service, we may automatically collect and store certain information in server logs. This information may include:

      • details of how you used our service, such as your navigation paths and search queries;

      • mobile related information if you access our website using your mobile device;

      • internet protocol address;

    • Cookies and Use of Cookie Data. When you visit our Service, we may assign your device one or more cookies to facilitate access to our Service and to personalize your experience. If we advertise, we (or third parties) may use certain data collected on our Service to show you Tinder advertisements on other sites or applications.

We also may include web beacons in advertisements or email messages to determine whether messages have been opened and acted upon. The information we obtain in this manner enables us to customize the services we offer users, to deliver targeted advertisements and to measure the overall effectiveness of our online advertising, content, programming or other activities.

    • Information collected by third-parties for advertising purposes. We may allow service providers, advertising companies and ad networks, and other third parties to display advertisements on our Service. We do not provide any non-anonymized personal information to third parties. We may collect this information through a website or a mobile application. By using the Service, you are authorizing us to gather, parse and retain data related to the provision of the Service.

2. How we use information we collect

In General, we use information that we collect about you to:

  • perform research and analysis about your use of, or interest in, our or others’ products, services, or content;

  • develop, display, and track content and advertising tailored to your interests on our Service and other sites, including providing our advertisements to you when you visit other sites;

The profile information you create, including the use of optional photographs, will be searchable by other users. All profile information members provide is displayed only to registered users of the Service. First names are used when a user is “matched” with another user that fits their search criteria, and when a user requests to add another user to their “ring” (a personal network of users that are “matched” based on search criteria). First names and email addresses are both used when a user invites a friend via email to join the service, and when we send notifications to a user related to their use of the service. Except when members invite friends, their email address is not shared or displayed with people within or outside of their “ring”. Users within a “ring” communicate on The Room Ring with each other through the Service without disclosing their email addresses.

When you contact us, we may keep a record of your communication as well as the other information in this Privacy Policy to help solve any issues you might be facing. We may use your email address to inform you about our services, such as letting you know about upcoming changes or improvements.

We use aggregated and demographic information to support our advertising needs so we can continue to provide many services for free. Your personally identifiable information is never disclosed to these parties, unless you are notified or consent.

Also, if you access our Service from a third party social platform, such as Facebook or LinkedIn, we may share non-personal information with that platform to the extent permitted by your agreement with it and its privacy settings. We will ask for your consent before using information for a purpose other than those that are set out in this Privacy Policy.

3. Choice

If we provide you with any mailings or other communication, you can always opt out of that communication through your account settings, but that may result in you being unable to use certain features of our Service.

You may also set your browser to block all cookies, including cookies associated with our Service, or to indicate when a cookie is being set by us. However, it’s important to remember that our Service may not function properly if your cookies are disabled.

5. Do Not Track Signals

Some web browsers have settings that include “do not track signals.” Our Service is not currently engineered to respond to those signals from browsers.

6. Information we share

  • Information Shared with Other Users. When you register as a user of the Service, your profile will be viewable by other users of the Service. Other users will be able to view information you have provided to us directly or through Facebook or LinkedIn, such as information you have in common with the person viewing your profile, such as common Facebook friends or LinkedIn connections. If you elect to do so, you will be able to chat with certain users of the Service, e.g., when you have a “match.” If you chat with your match, of course your match will see the content of your chat.

  • Personal information. We do not share your personal information with others except as indicated in this Privacy Policy or when we inform you and give you an opportunity to opt out of having your personal information shared. We may share personal information with:

    • Service providers: We may share information, including personal and financial information, with third parties that perform certain services on our behalf. These services may include fulfilling orders, providing customer service and marketing assistance, performing business and sales analysis, ad tracking and analytics, member screenings, supporting our Service functionality, and supporting contests, sweepstakes, surveys and other features offered through our Service. For example, if you provide your email address to other users (through your Facebook profile or otherwise), you may receive unsolicited messages. In addition, your public profile may be accessible by and may be shared with non-users of the Service. By default, your public profile will always display certain information, including your profile picture, first name and first letter of last name. You can adjust what name and other information is shared under your account settings.

    9. Third-Party Sites

    Our Privacy Policy does not apply to services offered by other companies or individuals, including products or sites that may be displayed to you on our website. We also do not control the privacy policies and your privacy settings on third-party sites, including social networks.
