Built-in messenger
Once you've matched and pulled up someone's mutuals, the in-app messenger opens up. You can talk, share more about your situation, ask the questions that actually matter — all without exchanging phone numbers, Instagram handles, or addresses.
The point is to let you screen before you share. Most renters end up swapping numbers within the first reply on Craigslist or Facebook. On TRR, you stay in-app until you've decided this is someone you actually want to keep talking to.
What's in it
Standard chat experience — typing indicators, read receipts, send photos. Plus features specific to roommate search: a shared checklist for working through the standard fit questions (sleep, guests, cleaning, etc.), and quick links to share other listings or schedule a video call.
When you should move off-platform
Once you've decided you want to meet in person or share a phone number, do it. We're not trying to keep you in-app forever. The messenger is there to handle the first few rounds of conversation — once you've vetted enough to feel comfortable, share whatever you want.
If something goes wrong
If someone in a chat starts being weird, abusive, or pushy, you can report the conversation directly. Moderators have the message history and respond within 24 hours. Block any user at any time — they won't be able to message you again or appear in your matches.
