Pair-up search
The most underrated TRR move: find a roommate first, then look for an apartment together. Pair-up search lets two members combine filters, share a shortlist, and inquire about listings as a pair — so you're not negotiating apartment-hunting on top of getting to know each other.
Most renters do this backwards. They sign for a 2BR, then panic about who's going to take the spare room. Pair-up flips it: align with someone first, then go find the right place together. You end up with both a better roommate and a better apartment, because both decisions are made on purpose.
How it works
Once you and another member agree to pair up, your search filters merge. You see listings ranked by both your priorities (city, neighborhood, budget). Either of you can save a listing to the shared shortlist. Inquiries are signed by both, so landlords know you're a pair from the first message.
Best fit for
Renters relocating to a new city. Grad students starting school in September. People leaving long-term relationships. Anyone whose situation makes "find the apartment first, then the roommate" feel like rolling dice.
How to set it up well
Talk through budget, neighborhood priorities, and non-negotiables before turning the search on. Agree on who handles outreach, who handles scheduling tours, and how decisions get made. Pair-up search works best when you've done the alignment work first.
