Looking for a roommate to apartment-hunt with

I'm Priya. I'm starting a computer science PhD at MIT in September, and I need to be in Boston before classes really pick up. I'd rather find a roommate on The Room Ring first and look for a two-bedroom together than sign a lease with someone I barely know.

This is not a room in an existing apartment. It's a pair-up search. I want to agree on budget, neighborhoods, and day-to-day habits before we tour places or email landlords.

Why I'm doing it this way

Most people find the apartment first and then panic about the roommate. I'd rather do it the other way around. If we align on money, timing, and how we live, the apartment search gets a lot less stressful.

I'm moving from the Bay Area and I don't have much of a Boston housing network yet. Mutual friends on TRR would help, but I'm mainly looking for someone who communicates clearly and can make decisions without dragging things out for weeks.

How I live

I'm in my mid-twenties. The first semester is going to be busy, so weeknights are usually quiet. I'm usually in bed around midnight, up early, and I run on weekends when the weather cooperates.

I cook a few nights a week, mostly Indian food, and I'm happy to share a meal without turning the kitchen into a nightly production. I have a car, which makes Allston, Cambridge, and Inman Square easier to tour even if we're not right on one T line.

Budget and neighborhoods

I'm trying to stay around $1,500 per person before utilities. I'd like to be in Allston, Cambridge, or Inman Square. I could go a little higher for a better layout or in-unit laundry, but only if we're both clear about what we're paying for.

I'm aiming to move in around September 1. If we connect by mid-July, there's enough time to tour in late July and sign in early August. If we wait too long, September gets messy fast.

Who I'm looking for

Someone working full-time or in another graduate program, calm on weeknights, and able to talk about money and chores like an adult. Non-smoking preferred. Pets depend on the actual apartment we find.

How we'd search together

We'd share a shortlist on TRR, split tour scheduling, and keep landlord messages in one thread so nothing gets lost. Before we sign anything, I'd want us to agree on how many places we'll see, what happens if one of us gets another offer, and how we're splitting deposits and furniture.

Message me with your budget, earliest move-in date, work or school situation, and any hard nos on neighborhoods or pets.
